About Acting and Interim Appointments – Select the Correct Position Title

ACTING appointments are those positions filled on a temporary basis to replace a regular unclassified employee on leave.  The appointment method is to place the acting employee on an academic wage appointment, NOT a regular unclassified appointment.

INTERIM appointments are those positions filled on a temporary basis while a search is being conducted or reorganization is taking place.   They require approval from the Office of Equity & Inclusion if you want to place someone into the position through a non-competitive process.  Follow the detailed instructions for completing a non-competitive search at http://oregonstate.edu/affact/hiring.  You must submit a non-competitive “fill” action through the online recruitment system.  Obtain permission from OEI before you submit your action to the HR Liaison.

Clinical Fellows are individuals who hold graduate rank. They are associated with the University for limited periods of time for furthering advanced training or experience. In the College of Pharmacy, these individuals hold terminal degrees. They are pursuing advanced training for 1-2 years. In the College of Veterinary Medicine, these individuals hold DVM degrees. They are pursuing advanced degrees (PhD's) or advanced specialty training in the clinics.

* Position Title Code: a code denoting the position title in online PD and recruiting actions.  In these actions, users may search by position title or code.  For classified staff position, the position title code in the online position description and recruiting system is the same as the Banner position class code, and the SEIU “class code.”  For all other appointment types, this code is not entered in Banner.

** Position Number: the Banner position number associated with the position title.  All positions are single positions (one employee per position) except for those with a "-1xx" extension; these are pooled positions (multiple employees per position).  The "-1xx" extension is used with online position descriptions to link a specific PD to an employee.  The “-1xx” extension is not entered in Banner.

Other information available on the Position Title Details Page:

Position Code Description: a brief summary of the position.

Minimum Qualifications: this information was developed by the Office of Human Resources based on academic appointment guidelines or position classification specifications.  On an unclassified position, if a department/unit uses different minimum qualifications, these are explained or entered as Required Qualifications on the position detail page.

Min-Max Salary: on classified staff positions, this is the salary range assigned in the SEIU collective bargaining agreement. Example: an Office Specialist 2 position is salary range 15.  (In Banner, salary range is displayed as “salary grade.”)  For all other appointment types, this field is not applicable.
