About Conversational Skills

Over 5,000 OSU faculty and staff have completed Conversational Skills for Influencing Decisions and a variety of follow-up workshops for those who have participated in Conversational Skills in previous years.

These training workshops promote conversational ideas introduced under the W.K. Kellogg Foundation-funded InterACTION! project which drew to a close in 2002.

Conversational Skills continues to be offered to OSU employees thanks to the continued commitment and support of the Office of the Provost.

How Will This Training Benefit You?

Conversational Skills and follow-up workshops keep us in touch with interpersonal skills that enhance our professional and workplace effectiveness. Previous participants consistently share how these workshops have contributed to their success in work and in life.

Workshops are at no cost to employees or departments.

Conversational Skills Details

For those employees new to Conversational Skills

This 2-day training course equips individuals with skills to:

  • Establish and maintain relationships based on integrity and trust.
  • Work on being present and productive.
  • Listen and really hear one another.
  • Respect diverse perspectives.
  • Design and manage effective meetings.

The course is especially suited to groups of participants from the same workplace; you may want to enroll a team from your unit.

Attendees will receive a personal copy of the course manual that will serve as a valuable reference.

Beverages are provided.

DATE: 4/17-4/18 (Monday & Tuesday), 8:00 AM -3:00 PM daily

LOCATION: Memorial Union Horizon Room, OSU Campus

Follow-Up Workshop Details and Registration

For Those That Have Completed Conversational Skills in a Prior Year

Follow-up workshops are designed for employees who have already completed the Conversational Skills foundational training in a previous year. These 2-hour sessions build on foundational learning that reinforces basic conversational concepts.
