An employee who is a veteran may request time off for Veterans Day if they are scheduled to work. The request will be approved unless it is determined that it would create a significant operational disruption and/or an undue hardship. If the request cannot be accommodated, the employee may request another day off within the year as a replacement for Veterans Day to honor the employee’s service.
The day will be unpaid, unless the employee has accrued paid leave that can be used. Classified employees can request the use of accrued leave per Article 42.1.F of the collective bargaining contract. Unclassified employees may request the use of accrued vacation and/or compensatory time, if applicable.
Employees are to follow the normal leave request procedures when requesting time off for Veterans Day.
