Human Resources Manual

Terms used in the Human Resources Faculty Policy & Procedure Manual are defined as follows:

FLSA - Fair Labor Standards Act

The federal law governing minimum wage and overtime compensation.

FLSA Exempt

Employees who, because of their salary or duties, are not exempted from the FLSA requirement for overtime compensation and, therefore, qualify for overtime compensation.

FMLA - Family Medical Leave Act of 1993

A federal law requiring covered employers to provide eligible employees job-protected and unpaid leave for qualified medical and family reasons.

FTE - Full Time Equivalency

A value that indicates the workload of an employee is a way that makes workloads comparable across various situations. An FTE of 1.0 means that the person or position is equivalent to a full-time employee or position, while an FTE of 0.50 indicates that the employee or position is half-time.

OAR - Oregon Administrative Rule

An Oregon Administrative Rule is the regulatory and administrative corollary to Oregon Revised Statutes. A rule is defined by the Oregon Revised Statutes as "any agency directive, standard, regulation, or statement of general applicability that implements, interprets or prescribes law or policy, or describes the procedures or practice requirement of any agency.

OFLA - Oregon Family Leave Act of 1995

A state law requiring covered employers to provide eligible employees job-protected and unpaid leave for qualified medical and family reasons. OFLA provides additional coverage not available under the FMLA for eligible employees.

ORS - Oregon Revised Statue

The Oregon Revised Statutes is the codified body of statutory law governing the State of Oregon, as enacted by the Oregon Legislative Assembly and by citizen initiative.  The statutes are subordinate to the Oregon Constitution.

OUS - Oregon University System

The Oregon University System (OUS) comprises seven public universities and one branch campus in the State of Oregon. Oregon State University is a public university and is part of the Oregon University System. The OUS Chancellor's Office carries out the Board's goals and initiatives and statewide higher education responsibilities for the benefit of Oregon and Oregonians.
