Introduction to PERS Retirement for Tier 1 and 2 members who are planning to retire in more than three years.    

Description of Workshops/Presentations:

All About OPSRP Workshop for PERS OPSRP members at any point in their career.   PERS OPSRP (Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan) members are those that were hired on or after August 29, 2003 and selected the PERS OPSRP pension program. Topics covered include OPSRP membership details and benefits, retirement eligibility, OPSRP benefit estimate, retirement processes, the Individual Account Program and member resources

Retirement Readiness for PERS Tier 1 & Tier 2 members (formerly 1 Year to Retirement) is for members retiring within 3 years. Topics to be covered are Individual Account Program, retirement eligibility, calculating the retirement benefit, review of benefit estimate, retirement option choices, variable account after retirement, work after retirement limitations, health insurance, cost-of-living adjustments, taxes and review of retirement application forms.

Introduction to PERS Retirement for PERS Tier 1 & Tier 2 members (formerly 5 Years to Retirement) is for members planning to retire more than 3 years. Topics covered include Individual Account Program, regular and variable accounts, retirement benefit information and work after retirement limitations.

Planning & Investing (How Much to Save for Retirement).  This workshop is open to all employees and Graduate Students.



TBA Wealth Builder.  Learn about the Oregon Savings Growth (deferred compensation) Plan.    

Wealth Builder describes what the OSGP is, how it works and why it is a valuable tool to use to accumulate dollars for retirement. The seminar discusses benefits of tax-deferred investing, OSGP investment options and enrollment information.

Planning & Investing helps participants calculate long-term savings goals, review the nine investment options, and create personal investment strategies.This workshop is intended to give you a snapshot of what your future retirement looks like based on your sources of income at retirement (ORP, PERS, IAP, Social Security, Retirement Savings, etc.) and is designed to calculate a monthly savings goal to help individuals have the money they need at retirement to have the lifestyle they want.

The Retirement Seminar is for participants within five years of retirement or who have severed employment and includes the catch-up provision, pay-out options, IRS requirements and the impact of new tax laws upon retirees, time frames, and forms completion.

Conquering the Winter Blues, Presented by Cascade Centers - Employee Assistance Program (EAP).   This seminar defines "winter blues" and "seasonal affective disorder", and how to tell the difference. Participants will learn to identify how the winter season affects them and learn strategies for coping with winter blues.

Stress Management, Presented by Cascade Centers - Employee Assistance Program (EAP).  Managing all of the different stressors in life is a challenge. People are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of reducing their stress because of the effects it creates on physical health, emotional well-being, and work productivity. These effects of stress as well as techniques to reduce stress will be discussed. Techniques include: relaxation, nutrition, exercise, sleep, attitude development, monitoring symptoms, and understanding the role of self-esteem.

Open to all employees and Graduate Students.

Spring 2017

Retirement:  Pre-retirement Panel Discussion on the Non-financial Aspects of Retirement. Workshop presented by OSURA (Oregon State University Retirement Association).  For Faculty and Staff that are within 1-3 years of retirement.  Retirement is a major life transition and requires planning for other than just financial matters.  Discussion will explore these areas and illustrate some aspects of the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of retirement. Dr Karen Hooker will provide an introductory presentation followed by a panel of 4 retired faculty/staff from OSU.  The panel members will be John Block (Pharmacy faculty), Kathy Meddaugh (Professional Faculty), Terri Tower (Professional Faculty,Housing & Dining), and Tom Plant (EECS faculty).
