An academic wage appointment is a short-term, non-recurring, work assignment that typically does not involve teaching responsibilities and has a duration of 90 calendar days or less. It is appropriate to use this appointment method when:
- The workload is intermittent/sporadic, but ongoing.
- A person is being placed into an "acting" appointment (those positions filled on a temporary basis to replace a regular, unclassified employee on leave).
- A current, regular status employee is provided an unclassified developmental opportunity (a temporary job assignment that allows an employee to gain new skills and experience relevant to his/her career goals).
ACTING appointments are those positions filled on a temporary basis to replace a regular unclassified employee on leave. The appointment method is to place the acting employee on an academic wage appointment, NOT a regular unclassified appointment. Acting appointments expected to last six months or longer require approval from the Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity.
INTERIM appointments are those positions filled on a temporary basis while a search is being conducted or reorganization is taking place. They require approval from the Office of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action if you want to place someone into the position through a non-competitive process. Follow the detailed instructions for completing a non-competitive search at http://oregonstate.edu/affact/hiring. You must submit a non-competitive “fill” action through the online recruitment system.
If the appointment is expected to last 90 days or less, the Office of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action may give you permission to place the interim employee on a short-term academic wage appointment. The appointment type is at the discretion of the OAAEO.

Public Employee Benefits Board, State of Oregon
When you are determined to be medically stationary, your claim is ready for closure. An examination is done to determine whether you have a loss of use or function as a result of your injury. This loss of function is determined as a percentage of whole body impairment for benefit calculations.
If you are unable to return to any form of gainful and suitable employment held in the past, you may qualify for PTD benefits. These benefits are based on your average weekly wage at the time of the injury but are paid monthly instead of biweekly. Generally, they are for significant and serious injuries, such as paraplegia, quadriplegia, or traumatic brain injuries.

As you recover from your condition, your doctor may release you to resume some work. At the time you return to transitional work, if you are not earning your pre-injury average weekly wage, you are eligible for temporary disability benefits. These benefits continue while you are recovering and have not been released to return to your regular work while you are not earning your full wage.
When an attending physician or authorized nurse practitioner authorizes you to remain totally off work during your recovery, the benefits you receive are called temporary total disability. If authorized, time loss benefits are paid during the time the claim is deferred and then continue if the claim is accepted. If the claim is denied, the benefits are stopped as of the date of the denial.
The amount you receive is determined by your average weekly wage. There are minimum and maximum biweekly benefits.
