Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile advise a diverse population of students in regards to their academic planning and progress by utilizing professional advising and interpersonal skills. They interpret and explain university academic policy and procedure to assist students in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation. Positions develop and enhance relationships with students (both pre-admitted and enrolled), staff, and faculty to support OSU student enrollment, persistence, and success. They work with students throughout the student cycle, from prospective through enrolled, identifying and creating/implementing systems and processes to address student success and retention issues.

They support academic persistence and success throughout the student cycle to promote success and retention in the overall academic and student experience. The Consultant-Acad Advis/Couns profile is distinguished from the Consultant-Hd Academic Advisor profile by a smaller scope of responsibilities and range of impact. The Hd Academic Advisor provides oversight and lead responsibilities regarding university policy and procedure for academic advising and related programming for the college, school or unit
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Advises and orients students regarding university and major-specific regulations related to degree completion including interpreting transcripts, performing degree audits, assisting with course selection and registration, career counseling, and making academic and personal referrals as needed. 2. Ensures compliance with university and college/school policies and procedures as they pertain to degree completion. 3. Monitors progress of degree-seeking students, enforcing university and college academic standards, and suggesting corrective actions when necessary. 4. May actively recruits students through participation in University and College-sponsored programs and events. Communicates with prospective students in person or via phone/email. 5. Develops and implements intervention strategies designed to improve academic success and student persistence by providing broad support strategies as well as individualized support and success counseling for students, with a focus on those experiencing academic difficulty. 6. Coordinates success/retention efforts in partnership with faculty and other university units dedicated to student success efforts. 7. Develops and provides advising/counseling strategies focused on student success, including referral of other university and community resources.
