Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile monitor the academic performance and eligibility of assigned student athletes to ensure compliance with institutional standards and NCAA requirements; provide counsel to student athletes regarding academics and life skills; act as liaison among coaches, teaching faculty, staff, and student athletes; work collaboratively with other units across campus in efforts to effectively assist student athletes.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Consultant-Ath Counselor is distinguished from the Consultant-Academic Counselor profile by the support of academic persistence and success for student athletes and the interaction and knowledge of NCAA regulations and requirements.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Monitor the academic performance and eligibility of assigned student athletes to ensure compliance with institutional standards and NCAA requirements. 2. Provide counsel to assigned student athletes regarding academic requirements of NCAA student athletes and OSU students. 3. Gather information qualitative and quantitative data during each term from teaching faculty, tutors, and study facilitators regarding current academic progress throughout the term. 4. Collaborate with other units on campus in providing academic support for student athletes. 5. Act as liaison among coaches, teaching faculty, staff, and student athletes. 6. Meet with prospective student athletes and their family members to discuss the services provided by our office. 7. Develops and implements intervention strategies designed to improve academic success and student persistence by providing individualized support and success counseling for students experiencing academic difficulty. 8. Actively recruits students through participation in University and College-sponsored orientations and events by communicating with prospective students via appointments, email and orientation sessions.

Typical Requirements
Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field. 1-3 years of experience working with student athletes.
