Positions in this job profile advise individual students pertaining to their academic and career planning and progress, utilizing professional counseling techniques. Clarify university academic policy and procedure to assist students in making decisions concerning personal educational goals leading to graduation. Develop partnerships with undergraduate advisors and academic faculty to promote and develop program, along with coordinating assessment and recommending changes to curriculum and impacts to graduation requirements.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Consultant-Hd Academic Advisor is distinguished from the Consultant-Academic Advisor profile by providing oversight and lead responsibilities regarding university policy and procedure for academic advising and related programming for the college, school or unit. They represent the college, school or unit on university committees and provide consultation and advice regarding degree completion for university students.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provides oversight for various academic advising related services, programs and processes provided by the college, school or unit, including ensuring compliance with university and college/school policies and procedures as they pertain to degree completion. 2. Hears testimony, gathers information, makes determinations and implements changes for petitions. 3. Works with other units within the College and across campus to represent the college/school advisors. 4. Advises and orients students regarding university and major-specific regulations related to degree completion including interpreting transcripts, performing degree audits, assisting with course selection and registration, career counseling and making academic and personal referrals as needed. 5. Mentors students needing academic success referrals and/ or university resources. 6. Monitors progress of degree seeking students, enforcing university and college academic standards, and suggesting corrective actions when necessary. 7. Assists with recruitment through participation in University and College-sponsored programs and events. Communicates with prospective students in person or via phone/email.

Positions typically do not have fiscal responsibilities.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in field relevant to work assigned. Experience advising students on degree completion requirement and academic standards.
