Profile Summary
Positions in this profile provide strategic guidance and leadership to the academic colleges and departments to identify and articulate the international curricular needs for, and the strategic development of, education abroad programs. Positions facilitate communication processes for faculty and staff to craft centralized systems to plan, develop, organize, coordinate, recruit, and assess all education abroad programs to meet the evolving globalization needs of the university.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Consultant-Study Abroad position profile is to provide international knowledge and expertise to centrally manage the university’s international program portfolio and facilitate development of new programs that consistently deliver the learning outcomes abroad required of accreditation. The primary focus for the Consultant-Study Abroad is as a direct liaison for communication forming information exchange conduits within the academic colleges to manage all international academic programming including curriculum development, implementation, assessment and outreach.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provides study abroad resources and expertise to OSU by serving as an international program consultant on campus committees, guest lectures, symposiums, forums, etc. 2. Manages informational resources and procedural modifications for study abroad programs including admitting, transcripting, registration, financial aid and academic advising 3. Liaise with various OSU departments to plan, develop, coordinate, and administer curriculum development and assessment for academic focused study abroad programs 4. Facilitates working relationships with study abroad providers and international partner institutions by determining which offerings OSU will support and ensuring the program meets the needs of the university. 5. Coordinates publicity, recruitment, application, screening and orientations for students seeking to participate in study abroad programs 6. Trains academic advisors in their understanding of study abroad options and guides them in their advising of students for placement suitability by providing accurate and readily accessible information and additional resources when available 7. Develops communication systems to monitor progress of study abroad participants; provides resource referrals about academic, cultural or personal issues; and communicates with faculty, advisors, staff and other units as needed

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and professional experience in field related to assigned responsibilities.
