Positions in this job profile manage the day-to-day operations of finance and accounting functions within a business center. They provide ideas and subject matter expertise while ensuring effective, efficient workflow and adherence to policy and standards. They may contribute to the development of the budget and are accountable for managing the budget and activities of staff.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Manager 1-F&A Bus Ctr is the supervision and management of the processes and day-to-day operations of the finance and accounting side of the Business Center. Positions serve a portion of the university departments, units and colleges to provide financial and accounting expertise, consultation and process management.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provides oversight of the daily operations and processes for procurement, contracts and grants accounting; payroll and financial statements for designated departments, units and colleges; reviews and monitors transactions for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, regulations, procedures and policies. 2. Provides and consults on research, revenue and expenditure forecasting and statistical analysis for leadership; prepares initial budgets, periodic financial statements and fiscal reports for designated departments, units and colleges; provides subject matter expertise related to budgeting, accounting, and payroll for stakeholders. 3. Develops and refines system methods, processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective workflow. 4. Provides supervision and direction for staff including hire, train employees; plan, assign and review work, establish goals for each position and assess performance through completion of written evaluation. 5. Represents departments, units, colleges and the Business Center to serve as liaison on administrative matters dealing with budgets, fiscal policies, payroll, grants and contracts in discussions with internal and external stakeholders, administrative and financial officers at the University.

Carries out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems. Supervises work of employees, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Monitors, informs, reports on budgets; reconciles and/or moves funds; drafts and develops budgets; approves changes within a budget.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field. 2 years of experience supervising professional staff with accounting, finance and/or budgeting duties.
