Profile Summary
Positions in this profile provide leadership and collaboration with other university and community partners to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for high impact student health prevention programming and services for University students. Positions use specialized expertise to plan and enhance support systems or structures across the campus and community, decreasing high-risk behaviors, and establishing strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Specialist 2-Health & Wellness profile is distinguished from the Coordinator-Health Educator profile by a higher level of specialized experience, greater program complexity and scope of responsibility, and a higher impact to the University.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Using specialized education and experience, develops, implements, and evaluates university-wide, high impact wellness education programs to groups and individuals 2. Manages the processes to support the program including program budgets, records and systems management, tracking, program evaluation and report generation. 3. Provides specialized expertise to internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to serving on committees and task forces. 4. Ascribes to national health promotion and specialized program standards and best practices related to health, well-being and prevention. 5. Establishes, manages, and maintains internal and external relationships and opportunities to develop and enhance the identification, support and quality of the programs services provided. 6. Ensures compliance with applicable university policy, state and federal regulations.

Results are defined by department leadership and division mission, vision, and strategies; existing practices are used as guidelines to determine specific work methods. Carries out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems. May supervise work of classified, unclassified and/or student employees, including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. Has responsibility for making, or effectively recommending on decisions regarding hiring, termination and pay adjustments. Manages, monitors, informs, reports and approves within unit/department budget.

Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit, University Wide, and Externally to: • Exchange routine, factual information and/or answer routine questions. • Exchange detailed information or resolve varied problems. • Identify needs/concerns of others, determine potential solutions, resolve or redirect appropriately. • Resolve conflict, negotiate or collaborate on major projects. • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and work quality. Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit to: • Access and/or work with sensitive and/or confidential information.
Typical Requirements
Master’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Health Education, College Student Services Administration, or related field. 3 years of experience in field related to specialized program content. May require licensure and/or certification.
