Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile are responsible for the oversight and management for operations related to OSU’s communications and marketing. Responsibilities include working with the Vice President of University Relations and Marketing and other URM administrators to evaluate, develop and implement philosophy, short and long-range goals and objectives. Employees develop, implement and enforce plans, policies, procedures, systems, programs and performance standards. They participate in strategic planning efforts as part of the management team. They are responsible for managing staff, equipment and facilities. They determine resource needs and priorities and make recommendations to executive management. They determine training needs and make appropriate arrangements for provision of training.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Administrator 1-Univ Comm&Mktg is the overall oversight and management of a central, university communications and marketing department. Positions develop strategic planning and vision, develop and oversee the department budget and supervise professional faculty employees that carry out the daily operations of the department.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Participates in overseeing the successful integration of Oregon State's integrated marketing and communications plan between university wide communications and marketing departments across campus. 2. Participates on the leadership team to plan, develop and implement various marketing and communications programs and policies for the university. 3. Provides and integrates messages from the University's strategic plan, research operations, and government relations into an overarching, integrated marketing and communications strategy, including news, media and print. 4. Provides advice and counsel related to public relations issues by providing strategic analysis, consultation, training, reports and decision-making regarding University media relations. 5. Establishes, and maintains internal and external relationships to promote and support the university, including cultivating local, regional, national and international media relationships and industry partnerships. 6. May write and edit university communications, including news releases, media advisories and internal communications, May also oversee the writing and editing of content for marketing materials used by the University. 7. Supervision of classified and professional faculty positions including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews.

Accountability
Results are defined by senior leadership, division and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Typically reports to a Vice Provost, Vice President, Assistant/Associate Vice President, Dean, or other senior level administrator. Supervises work of classified and/or professional faculty employees, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, responding to grievances, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content. Develops and approves department/unit budget and exceptions to program budget. Assists in the development of the division/college/overall organization

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, or related field. 5 years of experience as professional journalist or managing a communications and marketing department.
