Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Specialist 2-Mktg & Outreach is the specialized education and training required to develop and implement marketing strategies and outreach efforts within a department, unit, division or college.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Utilizes specialized education and experience in the research or discipline of the department or college to develop, implement and assess marketing programs and communication strategies. 2. Ensures compliance with University policy, state and federal regulations as they pertain to marketing and branding. 3. Builds relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote and ensure collaboration and partnership opportunities for marketing and communication efforts specific to the discipline, programs and services provided by the department or college. 4. Researches, analyzes, and makes recommendations to leadership regarding format and trends to inform decisions, services and strategies for marketing and communication efforts and planning. 5. Provides analysis, data and reporting to assess the effectiveness of current programs and services and inform decisions on future strategies, applications, and media.

Expectations and goals are defined by department/unit/division/college leadership and university mission, vision and strategies; existing practices are used as guidelines to determine specific work methods. Carries out work activities and resolves problems independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems. May monitor, inform, report, reconcile within budgets within a unit/department.

Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit and Externally to: • Exchange routine, factual information and/or answer routine questions. • Identify needs/concerns of others, determine potential solutions, resolve or redirect appropriately. • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance communications, workflow, and work quality. • Exchange detailed information or resolve varied problems. • Resolve conflict, negotiate or collaborate on major projects. • Persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas or collaborate on significant projects. • Handle sensitive issues and facilitate collaboration at the highest level.
Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field. 3 years of experience related to the discipline of the college, unit or department.
