Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile serve as the Chief Information Officer of the University. They provide vision, leadership, coordination and advocacy for the effective application of information technologies in the diverse, complex, and dynamic environment of a major research university. They lead strategy development, build partnerships, and coordinates a holistic IT enterprise for the University, accountable for the overall success of the University's IT strategies, investments and implementation.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This profile is the Chief Information Officer for the University with overall vision, and leadership for the application of information technologies.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Develops, implements and maintains the strategic planning process for coordinating, consolidating and strengthening all academic and administrative information systems at the university. 2. Oversees and implements fiscal operations for the division, including developing long range financial plans and consideration of the full range of funding sources. 3. Recommends to the President, Provost and university leadership policies and practices for the efficient and effective coordination, financing and integration of information services to effectively teach learn, create, manage and plan. 4. Creates, advocates and sustains a vision of innovative uses of information technology in higher education for units, colleges and divisions across the university. 5. Develops, promotes and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote, develop and enhance the mission of the university and the strategies and vision of information technology. 6. Provides leadership, supervision and direction for assigned staff. Hire and train employees; plan, assign and review work, establish goals for each position and assess performance through completion of written evaluations; act on disciplinary issues, up to and including dismissal; address grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary.

Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require novel and creative approaches to resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Decisions have significant, broad implications for the management and operations of a division/entire organization; makes decisions on the overall strategy and direction of the entire organization. Accountability
Results are defined by university strategy, mission and vision; incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Reports to the Provost/Executive Vice President of the University. Supervises work of other directors, including planning and reviewing work. Develops and approves multiple budgets and exceptions to budgets for multiple units.

Typical Requirements
Master’s degree in related field. 10 years of experience providing administrative leadership: including budget and financial management processes, and broad technical knowledge.
