Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile are responsible for providing strategic leadership for the University division of External Relations and Marketing with broad impact across the University. This position serves as the chief communications counsel and strategist to the President and his executive team. They chair the Executive Marketing Cabinet. Responsibilities include budget and resource allocation and management. They develop, implement, and evaluate philosophy, short and long-range goals and objectives. Employees provide the overall guidance and direction to support the development, implementation, and enforcement of plans, policies, procedures, systems, programs, and performance standards. They establish and direct the execution of strategic plans.

The Executive 2-Univ Rel & Mktg profile is the Vice President of University Relations and Marketing for the University.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Leads the development of a comprehensive strategic marketing plan for the university, in collaboration with executive, academic and OSU Foundation leadership, and evaluates and refines on an annual basis. 2. Conducts attitudinal and related research to analyze positioning and inform marketing strategy and progress for the university, and provides executive council on communication matters that impact OSU's positioning and ensures the highest ideals of transparency and public service. 3. Provides strategic marketing and creative communications guidance and support to units, divisions, and colleges across the university to advance their respective goals and coordinate institutional branding and messages.? 4. Leads OSU's brand management and related graphic identity efforts, including trademark licensing. 5. Develops, promotes, and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote, develop, and enhance the mission of the university, including engaging in private, foundation, and corporate fund development, and cooperative linkages with OSU academic departments and colleges, other appropriate divisions, and alumni relations and engagement. 6. Provides leadership, supervision and direction for assigned staff. Hire and train employees; plan, assign and review work, establish goals for each position and assess performance through completion of written evaluations; act on disciplinary issues, up to and including dismissal; address grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary.

Accountability
Results are defined by division and university strategy, mission and vision; incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Reports to the President of the University. Supervises work of leadership positions and professional faculty, including planning and reviewing work. Develops and approves multiple budgets and exceptions to budgets for multiple units.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field. At least 10 years of experience planning, coordinating and directing comprehensive marketing, communications, and public relations programs, including budget management and staff supervision.
