Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile serve as the senior administrator for the OSU Student Affairs Division. This position is the chief administrative officer of the Division responsible for creating and sustaining an environment of student services and student life excellence to enable and support success for students. They are a member of the Provost's Council and works closely and cooperatively with the OSU deans, other vice presidents/provosts, academic program leaders, faculty, and key external partners.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Executive 2-V Prov Student Aff profile is the strategic leadership and administration of the Student Affairs Division of Oregon State University. Positions provide overall administrative leadership for student affairs centers, departments, programs, and services for the university.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Develops and implements the vision, mission, values, and strategic plan for the Student Affairs Division in context of OSU's Strategic Plan. 2. Creates and sustains an environment of student success and programmatic and service excellence through student affairs departments and units, including Dean of Student; Career Services; University Housing and Dining; Intercultural Student Services; Research, Evaluation and Planning; Memorial Union; Student Health Services; Counseling and Psychological Services; and Recreational Sports. 3. Develops, promotes, and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote, develop, and enhance the mission of the division and university. 4. Manages human, financial, and other infrastructure resources to optimize their effectiveness, including development and implementation of a business plan for strategic opportunities and growth. 5. Provides leadership, supervision and direction for assigned staff. Hire and train employees; plan, assign and review work, establish goals for each position and assess performance through completion of written evaluations; act on disciplinary issues, up to and including dismissal; address grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary. 6. Ensures compliance with university policies, state and federal laws and regulations, and industry standards.
Problem Solving and Decision Making
Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require novel and creative approaches to resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Decisions have significant, broad implications for the management and operations of a division/entire organization; makes decisions on the overall strategy and direction of the entire organization. Accountability
Results are defined by university strategy, mission and vision. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Reports to the Provost/Executive Vice President of the University. Supervises work other directors, including planning and reviewing work. Develops and approves multiple budgets and exceptions to budgets for multiple units.

Typical Requirements
PhD or equivalent combination of education and experience. 10 years of experience providing administrative leadership: including student affairs leadership, budget and financial management processes, strategic planning, policy formation, personnel management, and supervision.
