Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile manage the day-to-day operations of a research and development program. They may contribute to the development of the budget and are accountable for managing the budget and activities of staff.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Administrator 3-Res & Serv Ops profile are daily oversight of a research and/or outreach operation that is a limited subset of a division or college. Positions contribute to the development and administration of the department strategy and budget.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Oversees and directs the daily research and/or service based operations of a limited subset of a division or college including development and implementation of program budget, and short and long-term goals and objectives. 2. Supervision including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews of employees including classified and/or professional faculty. 3. May assist in the overall college or division budget and strategy. 4. Ensures compliance with university policy and state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. 5. Oversee collaborative, external relationships and opportunities to develop and enhance the identification, service, recruitment, and retention efforts for the program. 6. Develops and implements policies and procedures that ensure effective workflow and quality standards. 7. Manages and oversees the operations of the research and/or service facility and equipment.

Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require novel and creative approaches to resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Decisions have significant, broad implications for the management and operations of a division/entire organization; contributes to decisions on the overall strategy and direction of the entire organization. Accountability
Results are defined by division/college and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Typically reports to a Director. Supervises work of classified or unclassified employees, including planning, assigning, and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. Has responsibility for making decisions on hiring, termination, and pay adjustments. Develops and approves program budget and exceptions to program budget. Assists in the development of the division/college/overall organization

Typical Requirements
Master’s degree in related field with 3-5 years of experience in management responsibilities.
