Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile manage and perform the day-to-day operations of an OSU farm or facility. They provide ideas and subject matter expertise while ensuring effective, efficient workflow and adherence to policy and standards. They may contribute to the development of the budget and are accountable for managing the budget and activities of staff.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Manager 1-Farm/Faclt profile are the day-to-day operational oversight ensuring farmland, facilities, equipment and vehicles are managed in conjunction with research activities and faculty. Positions manage to the farm or facility budget, contribute input in establishing the budget, perform most of the daily activities, and supervise the classified and/or professional faculty employees and students that perform farm, facility and equipment labor and maintenance. Positions are responsible for the day-to-day administration of operations on the research farm or facility, but they do not conduct research.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Perform the everyday operations of running a research farm. 2. Operate, as well as supervise the operation of various small and large farm and/or facility equipment including daily utilization and preventative maintenance of supplies, tractors, trucks, sprayers, and other equipment. 3. Ensure compliance with university policy, state and federal regulations including maintaining and updating records for safety, pesticide, and quality standards. 4. Supervision including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews of employees including classified and/or professional faculty. 5. Facilitate, coordinate and create operation schedule to accommodate research and maintain the health and vitality of farmland and facilities including but not limited to irrigation, fertilizing, harvesting and processing. 6. Prepare, monitor, and revise budget for farm and facilities including identifying opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost containment. 7. Provide leadership in communicating and facilitating changes in farm priorities that may occur due to weather, financial restrictions, research developments and other circumstances.

Carries out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems. Supervises work of classified or unclassified employees, and students including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standars, training staff and overseeing their productivity. Has responsibility for making decsions on hiring, termintation and pay adjustments. Monitors, informs, reports within budgets.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience. 2 years of supervisory experience. 2 years of experience in farm/facility operations.
