Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Manager 2-Res Ops profile are providing assistance for the day-today operations or a research program or department. Positions assist the manager or administrator with budget management, supervision of staff and assurance of effective workflow and quality standards.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Assists in the day-to-day operation of research operations for a functional unit within a department, unit, or program including budget management, supervision of administrative or positions that support the research operations. 2. Supervision including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews of employees including classified and/or professional faculty. 3. Provides subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders regarding program objectives and services. 4. Assists in the management and administers policies and procedures that ensure effective workflow, quality standards and compliance with university policy and state and federal regulations. 5. Assists in the management and participates in the maintenance and operations of the research facility and equipment.

Carries out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems. Supervises work of classified or unclassified employees, including planning, assigning, and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. Has responsibility for making decisions on hiring, termination, and pay adjustments. Monitors informs, and reports on budget within unit/department

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in field related to research focus or equivalent combination of experience. Certification and licensure may be required.
