Positions in this job profile develop and apply biostatistical theory and methods in the life sciences fields. They serve as consultants to researchers by providing tailored advice on the technical aspects of biostatistical expertise with regards to study design, type and size of study samples, and statistical methods to be used for data analysis.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Specialist 2-Biostatistician profile are the responsibilities to perform specialized biostatistical work in the Public Health and Human Sciences, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, or other life sciences. Positions require education and expertise in Biostatistics or Statistics.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provide biostatistical consultation to research colleagues, faculty, or Principle Investigators. 2. Analyze clinical or survey data using statistical approaches such as longitudinal analysis, mixed effect modeling, logistic regression analysis, and model building techniques. 3. Review clinical or other research protocols and data to recommend appropriate statistical analyses and course of action. 4. May utilize computer systems, including hardware and software, to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information. 5. May prepare or collaborate on writing articles, reports, or manuscripts for publication or presentation at professional conferences and preparation for grant applications.

Typical Requirements
Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or related field with strong statistical emphasis.
