Profile Summary
Positions in this profile provide specialized expertise of the brewing and fermentation process to develop, implement and oversee operations including strategy, short and long term goals and objectives and budget of the pilot brewery facility. They manage the strategic operations of the plant research laboratories, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations and policies in regards to food processing, facility certification and alcohol production. Positions conduct and participate in brewing science education and research activities for the plant and overall college.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Specialist 2-Pilot Brewery profile are the responsibilities to manage the operations of the OSU Pilot Brewery. Positions participate in the research of brewing methods and science and require education and expertise in brewing methods and agricultural sciences.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Oversees and manages the daily operations of the Research Brewery and Food Processing Pilot Plant including short and long-range planning, fiscal and operational forecasts, fee assessment, and contract management. 2. Ensures compliance with university policy, state and federal regulations, and industry standards including safety and quality standards. 3. Maintains state and federal licenses and all reporting/filing required for legal operation of the Research Brewery and Food Processing Plant. 4. Manages maintenance, improvements, modifications, and use of brewing and food processing equipment. 5. Develops processes and procedures to ensure effective workflow that meet safety and quality standards. 6. Supports and participates in brewing research projects and programs. 7. Establishes and engages in outreach with internal and external stakeholders including workshops, lectures, guest speaking opportunities, and event coordination to promote and share the research and program.

Typical Requirements
Master’s degree in Food Science or Agriculture related field.
