Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile require extensive experience in a certification program to provide leadership, coordination, organization, planning, execution, and communication in field and greenhouse inspection activities for all certified seed crops in the state. These positions coordinate the inspection programs in assigned geographical and specific areas.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the second level in a two-level series. The Specialist 2-Seed Certification 2 is distinguished by the minimum requirement of a Master’s degree in agronomy, botany, horticulture, natural resources or a related field, and 5 years of experience in seed certification work; OR a Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, botany, horticulture, natural resources or a related field, and 10 years of experience in seed certification work.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provide leadership in maintaining and developing certification programs for the Oregon Extension Service and Oregon State University; 2. Participate in one or more Oregon Seed Certification Service programs: ground and flight seed crop inspections, plant disease detection, seed stock, assessments, establishment and evaluation of OECD plot trials, and Extension education activities related to seed certification; 3. Inspections in all Oregon counties with certification activity for assigned crops; 4. Use the Oregon Seed Certification Service database and information systems to include data entry, retrieval, summarization, and presentation, following all established OSCS requirements and protocols; 5. Provide reports in assigned areas as required; attend and present at Seed Certification programs.

Typical Requirements
Master’s degree in Agronomy, Botany, Horticulture, Natural Resources, or related field; and five (5) years of experience in one of the following areas: Seed Certification, agronomic or plant ecology research, seed crop production or services, agronomic crop production or services. OR Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Botany, Horticulture, Natural Resources, or related field; and ten (10) years of experience in one of the following areas: Seed Certification, agronomic or plant ecology research, seed crop production or services, agronomic crop production or services.
