Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Specialist 2-Technical Communicator profile are the responsibilities to transfer technical information between parties through any medium that best facilitates the comprehension of the information. Positions require education and expertise in Technical Communications.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Plan, develop, organize, write and edit operational procedures and manuals. 2. Research, develop, and document technical design specifications, supporting documents for products, and test scripts. 3. Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation, and produce electronic documentation in addition to hard copy materials. 4. Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts to increase end user understanding of technical materials. 5. Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style and content; standardize content across various platforms and media. 6. Manage updates and revisions to technical literature.

Problems are varied, requiring anlysis or interpretation of the situation. Provlems are solved using knowledga nd skills, and general precedents and practices. Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Technical Communications, English, or a field specific to the assigned technical program or project. Minimum of two years of experience as a technical communicator working with industry-standard authoring tools and/or software.
