Positions in this job profile perform and coordinate farm or ranch operations of an agricultural or veterinary research facility. They maintain, perform repairs, and construct farm and research equipment, tools, and shop within the limits of the facility while supervising staff that perform similar daily support functions.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Supervisor-Farm/Ranch are the responsibilities to perform and coordinator farm, or animal operations of an agricultural or veterinary farm or facility. Positions ensure the effective and efficient workflow of their function or area by assigning and participating in the day-to-day operations of a functional unit. The Supervisor-Farm/Ranch is distinguished from the Manager 1-Farm/Faclt by having less overall management and decision-making responsibilities and more responsibility to participate in the work of the positions they are also supervising.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Performs and coordinates field operations of an agricultural research facility/farm including spraying, irrigation, thinning, harvesting, pruning, and other farm/ranch related activities. 2. Operates and oversees the use farm/ranch tools and equipment. 3. Applies, maintains, and records the application of chemicals. 4. Performs and coordinates the maintenance and inventory of land, buildings, roads, field equipment, and vehicles including minor construction and/or remodeling. 5. Provides or arranges for appropriate instruction and training for field staff. 6. Supervision including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews of employees including classified employees. 7. Provides subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders by providing information and participating in events.

Accountability
Results are defined by senior leadership, college and university mission, vision and strategies; existing practices are used as guidelines to determine specific work methods. Carries out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems. Supervises work of classified employees, including planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. May monitor, inform, report on budgets within the unit/department.

Typical Requirements
2 years of experience working on an agricultural farm, ranch, or facility. Farm and vehicle endorsements and licensure may be required.
