Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Administrator 2-IT profile is supervision and management of information technology services within a college, school, or department. The Administrator 2-IT profile is distinguished from the Administrator 1-IT by the span of control of the position. Administrator 2-IT services oversees IT services for a college, school or department; Administrator 1-IT oversees IT services for central IT functions with university wide scope. PRIMARY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Facilitates and coordinates the development and day-to-day operations of computing systems within a college, school, or department, including ensuring compliance with University policies, and standards for technology and data use and security. 2. Partners with internal stakeholders to develop standards for network services, create software and operating standards, define supported equipment and software, and create guidelines for customer support levels. 3. Develops budgets for the desired levels of computing support, monitor costs of provided support and make recommendations for increasing/decreasing fees and/or services to stay within budget. 4. Manages user needs and leads the unit to grow and reshape services and support in response to changing client requirements. Includes project and process oversight, staffing and scheduling considerations, coordination and prioritization of system related support work by other computing professionals, problem identification and resolution, handling of user complaints regarding timeliness/effectiveness of support efforts, service escalations, incident volume monitoring, and purchasing of required equipment. 5. Supervision of classified and professional faculty that support the operations of the unit, hiring/firing, defining competencies and performance objectives, planning, assigning and approving work, responding to grievances, disciplining/rewarding and preparing and signing performance appraisals or reviews. Identifies training needs and coordinates professional development opportunities. 6. Prepares status/performance reports to inform and consult with college, school, or department leadership regarding computing operations, discuss budget compliance, identify pertinent technology trends and consider new opportunities to meet instructional and research demands for computing support. 7. Collaborates, communicates and acts as representative for internal and external stakeholders including, including serving as college or department liaison for campus-wide information technology initiatives, policy and operating processes.

Results are defined by department/college leadership and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Supervises work of other supervisors/managers, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, responding to grievances, reviewing performance, and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content. Develops and approves department/unit budget and exceptions to program budget. Assists in the development of the division/college/overall organization

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Education, or related field. 3 years of experience in management responsibilities in information technology related field.
