They review and assesses impacts or implications of exceptions to policy; responsible for determination of exceptions to policy. They are responsible for managing staff and equipment. They determine resource needs and priorities and make recommendations to executive management. They determine training needs and make appropriate arrangements for provision of training.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Administrator 3-IT profile is supervision and management information technology services within a limited subset of a college, school or department. The Administrator 3-IT profile is distinguished from the Administrator 2-Info Services by the span of control of the position.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Assesses and provides solutions for the information technology needs of a limited subset of a college, school, or department, including short and long-range department planning, goals, objectives, and budgets. 2. Develops, interprets, and communicates operating policies and procedures for efficient and effective workflow in compliance with regulations and IT security. 3. Oversees the development, design and implementation of new applications and changes to existing IS systems and software packages, including evaluation of system conversions and integrations 4. Recommends and oversees ongoing improvements and the feasibility of system enhancements. 5. Supervision of classified and professional faculty that support the operations of the unit, hiring/firing, defining competencies and performance objectives, planning, assigning and approving work, responding to grievances, disciplining/rewarding and preparing and signing performance appraisals or reviews. Identifies training needs and coordinates professional development opportunities. 6. Collaborates, communicates and acts as representative for internal and external stakeholders including, including serving as college or department liaison for campus-wide information technology initiatives, policy and operating processes.

New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Accountability
Results are defined by senior leadership, division/college and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Supervises work of other supervisors/managers, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, responding to grievances, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content. Monitors, informs, reports, reconciles and/or moves funds within budgets, drafts/develops budgets, approves within budgets all within the unit/department.

Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit, University Wide, and Externally to: • Exchange routine, factual information and/or answer routine questions. • Identify needs/concerns of others, determine potential solutions, resolve or redirect appropriately. • Persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas or collaborate on significant projects. • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and work quality. Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit to: • Access and/or work with sensitive and/or confidential information. • Handle sensitive issues and facilitate collaboration at the highest level. • Exchange detailed information or resolve varied problems. • Resolve conflict, negotiate, or collaborate on major projects.
Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4 years of experience in management responsibilities in information technology related field.
