Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile perform supervisory and managerial work within information technology architecture. Duties performed include developing, implementing, and evaluating short- and long-range goals and objectives. Employees develop, implement, and enforce plans, systems, programs, and performance standards. They participate in strategic planning efforts as part of the management team. Positions possess authority to formulate and carry out management decisions or represent management’s interests to taking discretionary actions that control or implement employer policy. They review and assesses impacts or implications of exceptions to policy; responsible for determination of exceptions to policy. They are responsible for managing staff and equipment. They determine resource needs and priorities and make recommendations to executive management. They determine training needs and make appropriate arrangements for provision of training.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Administrator 3-IT Architect profile are the supervisory and managerial responsibilities of information technology architecture including oversight of building systems and programs, implementation and testing. Positions direct the operations of a single program that is a limited subset within a college, school, or department. They do not have full responsibility for IT functions across the college or division, but rather participate in the development of the overall strategic vision and budget for the college or division.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Defines, evaluates, and selects technology framework for hardware and software systems and components from creation to implementation and maintenance. 2. Develops, implements and assesses the strategy and vision that aligns with the University's needs, including short and long term planning. 3. Develops and implements controls for system operation processes and policies to ensure effective, efficient workflow and data security standards. 4. Develops, administers, and assesses programs to support the strategy including budget development and oversight and management of employees that carry out the program objectives. 5. Engages in collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance the goals and exposure of the programs and services of the unit. 6. Supervision of classified and professional faculty that support the operations of the unit, hiring/firing, defining competencies and performance objectives, planning, assigning and approving work, responding to grievances, disciplining/rewarding and preparing and signing performance appraisals or reviews. Identifies training needs and coordinates professional development opportunities.

Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require different approaches in line with evolving indsutry best practices to resolve. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Decisions have major implications on the management and operations of an area within a department; the job contributes to important strategy, operations, and business decisions that affect the department. Accountability
Results are defined by senior leadership, division/college and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Supervises work of other supervisors/managers, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, responding to grievances, reviewing performance, and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content. Monitors, informs, reports, reconciles and/or moves funds within budgets, drafts/develops budgets, approves within budgets, all within the unit/department.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience. 4 years of experience providing management in the area of computing systems infrastructure or web application management.
