Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile instruct and mentor students in developing software solutions to real world problems for the Center for Systems and Software (CASS). They provide students instruction and supervision in current software development technology, tools, and processes in support of student learning and perform specialized work which typically requires extensive knowledge of principles, concepts, systems, processes, and terminology. Positions may have responsibility for and exercise judgment in the supervision of staff including hiring, evaluation, and discipline up to and including dismissal.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Consultant-CASS Dev Engineer profile is the responsibility to develop and deliver software solutions to external clients using new and emerging technologies. Positions train students to exercise and develop business analysis and software development skills. The Consultant-CASS Dev Engineer is distinguished from the Consultant-CASS QA Engineer by the design and development of software solutions for external clients, compared to testing and solution identification for external vendors.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provides custom design solutions for external clients using state-of-the-art development tools. 2. Manages several database and Web Servers, including security, performance, and stability tuning. 3. Provides student learning opportunity and training regarding business analysis/software development concepts. 4. Maintains existing systems supported by the Center for Applied Systems and Software. 5. Engages and maintains relationships with external stakeholders to promote and support the Center for Applied Systems and Software mission and services.

Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require novel and creative approaches to resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Accountability
Results are defined by department management, college and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Supervises work of other student employees, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, responding to grievances, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Monitors, informs, reports, reconciles, and/or moves funds within budgets.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Experience in object oriented programming, SQL Server databases, web application development/server administration, multi-tiered database application systems, and .NET Development Platform, including Active Directory, C#, and Visual Studio. Familiarity with mobile development and open source platforms.
