Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provides administrative management of an IT unit including resource management, oversight of complex troubleshooting and development of projects and systems that support the strategy and vision of the department, college, or division for IT services. 2. Manages within assigned functional unit budget and keeps leaders informed of fiscal needs and results. 3. Develops processes for effective and efficient workflow and adherence to quality and security standards. 4. Supervision including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews of employees and provide for training provisions. 5. Oversees and participates in technical projects to identify, appraise, develop, and implement, new technologies and services for the unit, college, or university. 6. Manages internal and external relationships to communicate and implement long and short-term goals.

Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require different approaches in line with evolving industry best practices for resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Decisions have major implications on the management and operations of an area within a department; the job may contribute to important strategy, operations, and business decisions that affect the department’s ability to deliver services. Decisions impact: • Functions across the University • Department • Direct team • Students • Faculty • Vendors/Suppliers/Contractors • Other External Agencies and Institutions
Accountability
Results are defined by senior leadership, division/college and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.

Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit, University Wide, and External partners to: • Handle sensitive issues and facilitate collaboration at the highest level. • Persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas, or collaborate on significant projects. • Resolve conflict, negotiate, or collaborate on major projects. • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and work quality. • Exchange routine, factual information and/or answer routine questions. • Exchange detailed information or resolve varied problems. • Identify needs/concerns of others, determine potential solutions, resolve or redirect appropriately.
Typical Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience managing technical staff in a technical project or function.
