Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile may develop, implement, and evaluate the availability, security and integrity of university-wide information systems. They consult and ensure compliance on the direction, resources, policies, practices and standards pertaining to management of information systems and security at the university.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Officer-IT Sec & Comp profile is the responsibility to ensure information technology compliance and security with university policies, State and Federal Regulations. Positions provide specialized expertise in IT compliance and audit responsibilities with university wide scope.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Reviews and evaluates the University’s information systems environment related to the availability, confidentiality and integrity of information systems; compliance with policies, plans, standards, laws, and regulation; and effectiveness of IT strategy is at meeting University goals and objectives. 2. Identifies and recommends actions to be taken to safeguard assets utilize IS resources effectively and efficiently to executive leadership. 3. Establishes, reviews, and tests procedures for the safeguarding of the University's major network and computer-related assets including hardware, software, and data. 4. Provides data, analysis, and reports regarding IT security and compliance, including making recommendations, resolutions and corrective actions. 5. Customer relationships: Ensures continuing development of effective professional relationships with customers. 6. Provides subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders to communicate policies, procedures and current, best practices and tools for IT security and auditing.

Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require novel and creative approaches to resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Decisions have significant, broad implications for the management and operations of a division/entire organization; contributes to decisions on the overall strategy and direction of the entire organization. Results are defined by management, division and university vision, mission and strategies; existing practices are used as guidelines to determine specific work methods. Carries out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field. Experience in information security, auditing, and/or compliance related issues involving State and Federal Regulations.
