Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Specialist 2-IT Strategic profile is the specialized expertise and consultation of available technologies to division leadership. Positions manage technology projects and committees that support and fulfill the strategic initiatives of the division.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provides specialized expertise, and consultation regarding the spectrum of technology used and available for university learning, teaching, research, administration, and infrastructure to leadership. 2. Provides direction and management for short- to long-term projects and committees on behalf of the division leadership including researching and determining goals, coordinating updates, management of timelines, reporting, project assessment and implementation. 3. Develops and manages relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote the goals and mission of the division and its technology initiatives. 4. Serves as the key interface and subject matter expert on behalf of leadership in regards to IT projects, committees, and initiatives. 5. Prepares fiscal operations of projects and committees to include managing, reporting, creation of financial models and total cost of ownership assessments.

Decisions have significant and broad implications for the management and operations of a division/entire organization; your job contributes to decisions on the overall strategy and direction of the entire organization. Results are defined by division/college and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Monitors, informs, reports, reconciles and/or moves funds within budges, drafts/develops, approves within budgets and approves budget exceptions within the unit/department or division/college.

Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit, and University Wide to: • Represent executive leadership to develop ideas and communicate strategic intent. • Exchange routine, factual information and/or answer routine questions. • Identify needs/concerns of others, determine potential solutions, resolve or redirect appropriately. • Resolve conflict, negotiate, or collaborate on major projects. • Access and/or work with sensitive and/or confidential information. • Handle sensitive issues and facilitate collaboration at the highest level. • Exchange detailed information or resolve varied problems. Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit, University Wide and Externally to: • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and work quality. • Persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas or collaborate on significant projects.
Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Science, or related field. Significant experience in strategic planning for technology in an educational environment.
