Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Specialist 2-IT Web profile is the research, planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of Web-based systems for a division, college, or department. Positions provide specialized expertise to provide research, learning technology and student centered services using web-based technology and systems.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Develops strategies and tactical plans for technology solutions that address current and future needs for a division, college, or department. 2. Provides leadership in Web design and maintenance, research, and implementation of new technologies to transition business processes to Web-based systems. 3. Establishes protocols, identifies Web priorities, responds to requests, tracks maintenance schedules, and coordinates communications among staff regarding proposed enhancements and changes. 4. Anticipates program and department needs and deadlines for changes; prepares and presents recommendations for adaptation, customization, or alternatives to resolve business problems. 5. Manages relationships and collaborates with internal and external stakeholder to ensure successful implementation of system changes and promotes support services. 6. Manages web development projects, including planning, designing, identifying and managing resources, timelines, alternatives, impacts of changes and issues involving technical and resource/budgetary constraints.

Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require novel and creative approaches to resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Decisions have major implications on the management and operations of an area within a department; the job may contribute to important strategy, operations, and business decisions that affect the department. Results are defined by department leadership, division/college and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.

Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit, and University Wide to: • Resolve conflict, negotiate, or collaborate on major projects. • Access and/or work with sensitive and/or confidential information. • Handle sensitive issues and facilitate collaboration at the highest level. • Persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas, or collaborate on significant projects. Collaborates and interacts within the Dept/Unit, University Wide and Externally to: • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and work quality. • Exchange routine, factual information and/or answer routine questions. • Identify needs/concerns of others, determine potential solutions, resolve or redirect appropriately. • Exchange detailed information or resolve varied problems.
Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. Professional certification pertaining to position may be required.
