Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile perform supervisory and managerial work within external relations for a program or college. Duties performed include developing, implementing, and evaluating short- and long-range goals and objectives. Employees develop, implement, and enforce plans, policies, procedures, systems, programs and performance standards. They participate in strategic planning efforts as part of the management team. They are responsible for managing staff, equipment and facilities. They determine resource needs and priorities and make recommendations to executive management.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Administrator 3-Ext Relations profile is the supervisory and managerial responsibilities for external relations within a department, college, or unit. Positions implement the division or college strategic plan through external relationships and outreach activities to engage, promote, and gain support for programs and services with external stakeholders such as alumni and industry partnerships.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provides management and oversight of the daily operations of external relations within a program or limited subset within a division or college, including short and long-term planning, budget development and supervision of employees implementing programs, services, and initiatives. 2. Creates and directs strategic initiatives related to external relations, including but not limited to industry partnerships, community partnerships, and alumni relationships. 3. Develops and implements strategy that builds external relationships through programming, communication, and outreach events. 4. Develops communications initiatives to facilitate and advance the mission with stakeholders within a broad geographic scope. 5. Represents the division, college, and profession at events, workshops, seminars, and other external as needed. 6. Promotes and develops strategic external relationships to promote and gain support for the college, division, or department programs. 7. Supervision of classified and professional faculty positions including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews.

Results are defined by division/college and university mission, vision and strategies. Incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Supervises work of classified or unclassified employees, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, responding to grievances, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in field related to department, college, or unit focus. 3 years of experience developing and engaging in strategic partnerships with external stakeholders.
