Positions in this job profile coordinate the university's efforts with Congress and the federal government. They monitor federal legislation, programs, and proposals and provide assessment and consultation for possible implications and opportunities for the university. They may act as liaison between the university and members of the Oregon congressional delegation, congressional staff, committee staff, and federal agencies.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Specialist 2-Govt Relations profile is the specialized expertise required to coordinate and implement the university’s efforts with Congress and Federal government programs, agencies, and officials. This position acts as the liaison between the university and legislators, congressional staff, committee staff and federal agencies.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Leads and coordinates university-wide efforts to build and maintain strong relationships with federal agencies. 2. Engages the university leadership in the development and implementation of the university's federal agenda in close consultation with the President, Provost, Vice President for Research and other members of the university's executive staff. 3. Anticipates, orchestrates, and develops legislative and agency strategies to advance federal agency initiatives and budget support. 4. Provides detailed status reports on progress, problems, opportunities, upcoming issues and potential impacts. 5. Monitors federal legislation, programs, and proposals; assesses potential implications and opportunities for the university; and coordinates the university's role in anticipating and addressing relevant federal legislation. 6. Serves as liaison between the university and members of Congress, including the Oregon Congressional Delegation, congressional staff, committee staff, federal agencies, additional executive branch entities, national organizations and associations, other universities, and key constituents. 7. Coordinates and communicates the university's position on federal issues, identifying short and longterm impacts that may affect university operations or the achievement of short and long-term strategic goals and operations.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Communication, Public Policy, Public Administration, or related field. 5 years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility and authority in conducting government affairs with exposure to policy, education, and public finance issues.
