Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Specialist 1-EEO profile are the responsibilities to ensure university wide compliance with University policy, and state and federal laws and regulations regarding antidiscrimination laws. Positions require a terminal degree from an accredited law school.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Addresses complaints of discrimination, harassment, bullying, and retaliation, including providing confidential advice and guidance, offering assistance to address difficult and complex issues, designing and implementing interventions, conducting informal and formal investigations, issuing written determinations, and mediating conflict. 2. Manages and provides directing in research, analysis, and case management regarding equal opportunity and harassment. 3. Collaborates with internal and external units and stakeholders to investigate and respond to civil rights and tort claims, discuss and resolve conflict. Meet with academic and administrative departments, employees. 4. Discusses, advises, and resolves concerns relating to: access to programs and services; equal opportunity; discrimination; sexual harassment; bullying; and retaliation. 5. Collaborates with internal stakeholders to develop policy, guidance, or practices to ensure compliance with equal opportunity obligations and consistency with aspirations for inclusion in all university programs, services, and activities. 6. Utilizes theories, research, and legal and policy frameworks to individually and collaboratively design curriculum and conduct educational and training sessions on topics related to equity, inclusion, and diversity. 7. May supervise professional faculty positions including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews.

Typical Requirements
J.D. from an accredited law school. Experience conducting investigations and fact gathering.
