Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile manage the day-to-day operations of special collections and archives in the OSU Library. They provide ideas and subject matter expertise while ensuring effective, efficient workflow and adherence to policy and standards. They may contribute to the development of the budget and are accountable for managing the budget and activities of the unit staff.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Manager 1-Archivist profile are the responsibilities of the day-to-day operations and objectives of a special collections and archives within the OSU Library. Positions manage within a budget and provide supervision for employees carrying out the daily work within the functional unit.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Oversees and coordinates arrangement and description activities of the Special Collections and Archives Research Center, including prioritization of accessioning and processing activities by staff. 2. Creates policies and procedures for managing and making accessible born-digital materials. 3. Oversees the University Retention Schedule and University Records Centers, including accessioning; identification and removal of records eligible for destruction; and monitoring records retrieval. 4. Participates in outreach activities with internal and external stakeholders and organizations, including professional archival and library organizations. 5. Provides reference services, especially in-depth inquiries; identifies potential donors and facilitates transfers of materials to the collections; serves as lead archivist for moving image collections. 6. Supervision including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews of employees and provide for training provisions.

Has responsibility for making decisions on hiring, termination, and pay adjustments. Monitor, informs, reports, reconciles, and/or moves funds within budgets. Drafts/develops budgets, and approves within budgets.

Typical Requirements
Master’s Degree in Archival Studies, History, or Library Science. Progressively responsible work experience in an institutional archives, special collection, or records management program, including 1 year of supervisory experience.
