Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile collect, organize, provide assistance and instruction and maintain control over a wide range of primary sources in many formats. They create finding aids in compliance with professional standards and encodes finding aids using contemporary tools to make them available to researchers online. Appraises potential acquisitions. Provides research assistance in the use of archival materials. Develops policies and/or procedures and directly manages the acquisition, disposition, access to, and safekeeping of archival materials.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Specialist 1-Archivist profile is the specialized expertise required to perform the responsibilities of the position. Positions require a terminal degree to administer, preserve, and maintain records.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Analyzes and appraises records, advises on retention periods, and determines materials appropriate for transfer to collections. 2. Prioritizes and monitors institutional records for arrangement, detailed description, preservation, and digitization. 3. Develops and implements policies and procedures for the appraisal, storage, preservation, and access of electronic records within institutional records. 4. Oversees the accessioning of all historical materials transferred, donated, or otherwise acquired, including the coordination and facilitation of the physical transfer, re-housing, and storage of historical materials following standards for conservation and preservation of archival materials. 5. Coordinates marketing and outreach events, activities and materials to promote the collection in multiple media formats, including development of displays, exhibits, publications such as brochures, posters and flyers. 6. Provides subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders, including providing information, education, resources and instruction.

Typical Requirements
Terminal degree in field related to assigned responsibilities. Experience in a special collection or archival unit.
