Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile provide technical systems expertise for maritime construction projects. They oversee the management of subcontractors and ensure the project is built within the specifications of the contract and design.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristic of the Specialist 2-Marine Const Eng profile is the technical expertise required to provide engineering services and on-site management of a maritime construction project.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Manages review of shipboard integrated systems for a marine construction project. 2. Reviews engineering submittals for conformance with contract requirements, including drawings, calculations, test procedures and reports. 3. Coordinates attendance of OSU inspectors and serves as representative for oversight and enforcement of QA related activities and processes and good business practices. 4. Supervises sub-contracted OSU inspectors, facilitating communication between internal and external stakeholders. 5. Ensures compliance with University policy, state and federal laws and regulations, contract specifications and industry standards. 6. May supervise professional faculty and/or classified positions including plan, assign and approve work; rewards/discipline; respond to grievances; hire/fire (or effectively recommend); prepare and sign performance evaluations/reviews.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Marine, Naval Architecture, or closely related field OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. 10 years of experience as USCG Licensed Chief Engineer, Diesel, and Horsepower. 10 years of experience in new vessel design, construction inspection, and commissioning.
