Accountability
The distinguishing characteristic of the Specialist 2-Port Captain profile is the specialized expertise required to assist in maintaining shipyard logistics and managing the operational readiness of the research vessel, including recruitment, budgeting and purchasing.
Relationship With Others
1. Recruits, interviews and selects vessel and shore personnel. 2. Prepares, maintains, and audits safety and security plans for OSU vessels and, when necessary, facility security plans for the Ship Operations facility. 3. Ensures compliance with University policies, state and federal laws and regulations, contractual agreements, industry and safety standards. 4. Assists in preparing annual operation schedules, developing operating budgets, writing proposals, and tracking expenditures. In the Marine Superintendent’s absence, act on his/her behalf within the limits of delegated authority. 5. Identifies need for new navigation, communications, science support, and safety equipment upgrades on OSU vessels and Ship Operations shore facility. 6. Assists with logistics and maintenance during inport and shipyard periods, including providing support for scientific operations.
