Profile Summary
Positions in this profile provide equal or equivalent communication access for deaf/hard of hearing students through interpretation and/or transliteration. Positions require a Bachelor’s Degree, certification as Interpreter Preparation Program (IPP) graduate; and/or passing the NIC written/performance.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Interpreter 1 profile is distinguished from the Interpreter 2 profile by the certification requirements and years of experience. Positions in the Interpreter 1 profile require a Bachelor’s Degree, certification as IPP graduate; and/or passing the NIC written/performance.
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Interprets/Transliterates classes, discussions, meetings, advising sessions, and university wide activities for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the language mode used by the student. 2. Provides subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders to enhance and promote department services and programs. 3. Ensures compliance with applicable university policy, state and federal regulations. 4. May provide mentoring to pre/newly certified interpreters.

Typical Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and/or state or nationally recognized interpreting certification. IPP graduate within 3 years of starting position.
