Profile Summary
Positions in this job profile serve as a professional advisor to the Associated Students of OSU, providing advice and guidance in University related matters. They represent and advocate for students at the campus, community, state and federal levels on issues related to education.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The distinguishing characteristics of the Specialist 2-Legal Advisor is the specialized expertise necessary to serve as a professional advisor to OSU students providing guidance and advocating for students at the campus, community, state and federal levels on issues that directly influence the quality of, and access to, post-secondary education. .
Primary Position Responsibilities
1. Provides representation and advocacy on behalf of students in University decision making, while working at the intersection of law, education, rights and responsibilities in all aspects of student life. 2. Participates in university committees to help bring the student perspective to build relationships and alliances between ASOSU and the university. 3. Develops, implements and oversees the administrative operations of the office including fiscal management and establishing long-term solutions and services for students. 4. Facilitates workshops, presentations and courses to promote the growth and enrichment of individual students and student groups. 5. Provides consultation, conducts research, and analysis to provide advice in critical decision making and leadership transitions for ASOSU. 6. Serves as a policy adviser and problem solver, contributing to the writing and implementation of policy proposals and other ASOSU administrative directives.

Problems are highly varied, complex and often non-recurring; require novel and creative approaches to resolution. New concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Decisions have major implications on the management and operations of an area within a department; the job may contribute to important strategy, operations, and business decisions that affect the department. Accountability
Results are defined; incumbent sets own goals and determines how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines to follow, although precedents may exist; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction. Positions monitor, inform, report, reconcile and move funds within budgets, draft, develop, approve within budgets and approve exceptions within the unit/department.

Typical Requirements
Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Public Policy, or related field. 3 years of experience working with student community organizations.
