Medicare Plans for PERS Retirees

PERS (Public Employees Retirement System) Retirees – Medicare Plan Options:

  • Need assistance in reviewing your options, contact SHIBA (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance)
  • Private Medicare Supplemental & Advantage Plans
    • There are multiple plans available on the open market (e.g, Blue Cross, Samaritan, AARP, etc.)
    • Refer to SHIBA Guide to Medicare Insurance for additional information on your option
  • PERS Health Insurance (Tier 1, 2, or OPSRP members)
    • Enrollment Forms
    • Payment Options
    • Enrollment Opportunities
    • Subsidies – Tire 1 & Tier 2 members only, must have eight (8) years of service
    • Enrollment Meetings held in the Fall & Spring
    • If both spouses are PERS retirees, it may be more beneficial to enroll in the PERS plans separately to take advantage of the PERS Subsidies (if eligible)
    • DO NOT enroll in a separate Medicare Part D plan if enrolling in a PERS Medicare plan, it is included in the PERS Medicare plan

ORP (Optional Retirement Plan) Retirees – Medicare Plans:

  • Need assistance in reviewing your options, contact SHIBA (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance)
  • Private Medicare Supplemental & Advantage Plans
    • You will need to find a private Medicare Supplemental or Advantage Plan on the open market
    • There are multiple plans available privately (e.g, Blue Cross, Samaritan, AARP, etc.)
